Newsletter Committee

AREA NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE

ABOUT THE NEWSLETTER

The aim of the newsletter is to serve the members of the groups and to assist the General Service Representative (GSR) when relaying information about area / general service, and notably, reports from the General Service Conference. It’s a communication tool that is hoped to engage, inform, and attract members to actively participate in the forward movement of A.A. GSRs may find the newsletter useful when preparing their group reports.

The newsletter is mostly a digital publication, for reasons of wider distribution, easier reader access, popularity amongst members, and cost-effectiveness. A limited number of printed copies are provided at each assembly. Additional copies can be delivered to the groups “on demand” who have a need. Simply email a request with “additional copies” in the subject line to: Newsletter@area8aa.org.

Please see below a printable sign with a QR code that is designed to display on group literature tables and inserted into an 8 x 10 ($0.99) stand-up picture frame.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The newsletter disseminates relevant and relatable information concerning the A.A. service structure, new resources for carrying the A.A. message, and matters under discussion; the contents support the responsibility of all groups to maintain the existence and growth of Alcoholics Anonymous by participating in the development of an informed conscience.

ABOUT THE NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE

The committee meets online once each month, currently on the third Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, or until business is completed. The committee is primarily made-up of area assembly members, however, all A.A. members are invited to join the committee. Editors, writers,  “thinkers” (to develop content) are especially needed. This is a great way to support general service  in our local community!

Committee members help create and develop five-yearly publications that correspond with the date of the area assembly. They support the publisher (the committee chair) by accepting tasks such as seeking contributing articles, written materials by the General Service Office (GSO) and beyond, and offer ideas for content, promoting readership, and take part in distributing issues that reach “all” of the groups, especially those groups that are absent of a GSR.

CARRYING THE MESSAGE OF THE THIRD LEGACY

Those of us who have served on the Newsletter Committee have found our experience to be a unique opportunity to contribute to the Fellowship by connecting the groups to general service and the affairs of the General Service Conference. We are grateful to carry the message of our third legacy of service and hope you will join us in this effort.

INVITATION TO VISIT

Any interested member who wishes to explore the service work of the committee or has suggestions for publication, need only attend a meeting or contact the committee chair. Assembly members have the opportunity to join this committee or one of the thirteen other area standing committees at each area assembly.
